How do levelled texts work? In this session, we will unpack the highly successful PM levelling criteria underpinning the levelling system across 30 levels. Participants will examine the development of a balanced reader and how to use levelled texts to explicitly teach reading.

• The criteria underlying the gradient of difficulty as students move through the 30 levels
• What needs to be taught within levels to move students from one level to the next
• How to effectively place students at a level so that teaching and learning are maximised.
